This FAQ is specific to SquareTrade Protection Plans purchased for Amazon devices, directly from Amazon’s website.
What's not covered by a SquareTrade plan?
SquareTrade Protection Plans covers all mechanical/electrical failures that happen during normal use, such as button failure, depleted (non-replaceable) batteries, and nonresponsive charging ports or audio jacks.

SquareTrade Protection Plans covers all mechanical/electrical failures that happen during normal use, such as button failure, depleted (non-replaceable) batteries, and nonresponsive charging ports or audio jacks. Plans that include accident protection also cover damage from accidents like drop and spills.
Does SquareTrade cover software issues?
Unfortunately, SquareTrade does not cover any software-related issues.
Who covers shipping costs if my item needs to be sent in for repair?
SquareTrade covers 100% of all shipping costs within the U.S.
Why doesn’t SquareTrade cover loss and theft?
A SquareTrade Protection Plan is an extended warranty, not insurance.
What's an exclusionary or waiting period? Does my plan have one?
SquareTrade only covers devices that are fully functional.
Does SquareTrade cover my item while I’m travelling abroad?
Your item is completely covered no matter where in the world you travel.
How can I tell if my plan covers accidents like drops and spills?
To find out when your plan covers accidental damage, check the purchase confirmation email or welcome kit you received when you purchased your plan.
